Mr Johann Peries on a short visit to Sydney delivered an inspirational talk at the Official Residence of the Consul General on 7 January 2019 on his experience climbing the highest mountain of the world. Mr Peries is the second Sri Lankan to summit the Mount Everest. He and Ms Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala attempted to summit the peak in 2016 during which Johann was forced to turn back 448m short of reaching the summit, as his oxygen tank failed. Jayanthi went ahead and became the first Sri Lankan to summit the Mount Everest. In Johann’s second attempt he reached the Peak on 22 May 2018.
Mr Peries described the challenges he faced during the difficult journey appreciating the support received from the Sri Lankans for ‘Climb Everest with Johann’ campaign. His talk was an inspiration to audience to reach the peaks of the paths they choose in their lives.
